Certification
3-DAY
Immersion Program
Aviana’s Aerial Yoga Teacher Training is an immersive, in-person certification experience designed for those who feel called to teach aerial yoga with confidence, integrity, and embodied awareness.

It is about learning how to guide responsibly, cue intelligently, and hold space for real human bodies, while deepening your own relationship with the practice.
Offered as a 3-day, in-depth immersion, this course leads to a 50-hour Aerial Yoga Teacher Certification and supports a wide range of learning styles through hands-on practice, mentorship, and experiential education. You will be invited to stretch beyond perceived limitations not by pushing, but by cultivating trust, skill, and presence.
Since 2014, instructors from around the world have completed the Aviana Aerial Yoga Teacher Training and gone on to teach thoughtful, body-intelligent classes rooted in yoga philosophy, mindful movement, moving meditation, and playful exploration. As a graduate, you join the Sisters of the Silks a growing lineage of teachers devoted to offering aerial yoga as a practice of empowerment, care, and conscious connection.

Aligned with the planets, moon, and sun these principles will help you to shine as a powerful instructor of integrity, aiding you in building relationships of trust with your students inviting them to further expand in the space made available by the hammock with your guidance.
We will touch base on the principles of yoga in order to ensure that as we move forward in our aerial yoga offerings, we maintain the integrity of the practice of yoga in our classes without crossing the line into the ‘circus performance’ application of the aerial sling.
Aviana offers the guidance to understand how to structure a class experience in a way that will flow gracefully from one asana to the next to allow the body to open through the muscular chains that will invite a deeper connection in order find ease in more challenging asanas.
We will focus on the space in between each of the asanas and how to create a class that takes you out of the mind and into the dynamic functional motion of the body because yoga is not just about the pose itself but the connection of poses that move energy.
A hands-on approach will be practiced to be able to ensure your confidence in keeping your students safe as they branch into new asanas with the hammock.
We will cover many asanas that explore utilizing the hammock for traditional yoga poses as well as the infusion of performance aerial sling shapes into a mindful yogic expressions of discovery
We will explore two different styles of class sequencing to expand your toolbox of inspiration when creating your own sequencing to serve your class intention.
Essential oils offer a wonderful enhancement to any yoga class experience, but when infused with the sensory input of the aerial yoga hammock, it takes a practice to a whole new level. We will discuss and explore the use of essential oils with your classes to maintain a relationship of respect for the potency of the plants gifts.
We will touch on the energy centers to bring them to the forefront of the mind while understanding the methodology of sequencing and how to enhance your classes with a deeper meaning and intentional approach.
Aerial yoga is BOOMING in yoga studios and there are many opportunities to be able to share your new knowledge with communities, we will discuss the important things to consider when getting started as an instructor and how you can set yourself up for success.
Each day of the training we will learn about different archetypes of mythical goddess such a Lakshmi, Kuan Yin, and Sophia which can serve as sources of inspiration and guidance for the creation of classes or for your own personal journey of discovering your divine feminine essence.

Meet Your Instructor: Holly Johnson
Hello!
I am delighted to connect with you to share my passion for aerial yoga. I began teaching this practice in 2012 in Fort Collins, Colorado where I was the first to introduce aerial yoga to the area, so I am very familiar with the courage it takes to step into something new and find your way with it to a life you love.
Since then, I have traveled the country and the globe supporting over 40 studios, retreat centers, and even arboretums with launching their very own aerial yoga programs.
I am the author of Soaring with the Soul: An Aerial Yoga Guide, which I am presently in the process of creating the second edition of to serve as a resource for others with everything I have learned and developed over the years for the practice of aerial yoga.
I feel so blessed since Aviana has come into my life as the portal through which I am able to support others in learning how to become teachers that serve the wellness and mindfulness of their local communities and I look forward to the opportunity to be of service to you.
Many Blessings of Love, Light and Flight!
Frequently Asked Questions
Aviana offers an aerial yoga practice where you maintain a connection with the hammock throughout the practice, which allows you to surrender into being held and supported while flowing through a moving meditation. There is great attention given to the alignment of the body and the relationship of the body to the anchor points in the ceiling. From the foundation of a rooted connection to the body and to the hammock the practice takes on a full sensory engagement through the instructor’s attentiveness to the sights, sounds, and aromas. Aviana is a full immersion experience developed to guide the practitioner into a meditative journey of growth and awareness with lengthened, toned elegance.
Absolutely! You would not be alone, there are many instructors that enroll in the aerial yoga teacher training to experience aerial yoga for the first time. Since aerial yoga is presented in so many ways, sometimes it can be better for you to enter with a beginner’s mind.
Your practice teaching hours are important to developing yourself as an instructor, we will discuss this at the training to make sure that you have a place where you can hang at least two hammocks. If you live near the studio where the training is being facilitated, oftentimes, there is an arrangement set up with that studio for you to complete your practice teaching hours there.
To receive your aerial yoga certification, you must complete the in-person training intensive and then complete the remaining training modules within a 5-month period following your in-person intensive. All training modules will be reviewed with feedback given and must be completed to the satisfaction of Aviana safety standards for a certification to be granted.
Some students complete their training and remaining training modules within 2 months of attending the in-person training, but you have up to 5 months to complete them with the option to receive extensions if need-be.
Yes! There are payment plans that allow for you to break your tuition into 3 or 4 months of payments.
Since the aerial yoga training intensive is for only 3-5 days, depending on the training that you are attending, there is a plethora of information covered each day, so it would not be advisable to miss a whole day of the training
In the event that you need to leave one of the training days early or arrive late, please reach out to the trainer facilitating the training and let them know so that arrangements can be made to support you with getting up to speed with whatever material you will miss during your time away.
The Aviana Aerial Yoga Teacher Training differs from other aerial yoga teacher trainings available due to the intentional focus on optimal body alignment, moving meditative sequences, full sensory engagement, and the connection to the power of sisterhood. The training intensive is presented in a way that it feels like a retreat infused with a teacher training so that you can immerse yourself into your own growth and expansion as you discover your wings.
The examination training module is very straightforward, everything that is on the test is included in the training intensive or in your training book. It is a short exam and not something to stress about. You will have the opportunity to retake the exam one time in the unlikely event that you do not pass on the first try.
Yes, Aviana is here to support you through each step of the journey, do not hesitate to reach out to Aviana or to embrace the support of sisterhood in the Sisters of the Silks Community Group.
While you are an instructor in-training, you will need to offer classes to log your practice teaching hours. There are several ways that the classes can be offered, and it will vary depending on the hosting studio you are teaching out of. The classes can be donation-based where proceeds support a local cause, or proceeds go to the hosting studio to support the costs of the use of the space.
Once you are certified, you will have discovered your wings to take you where you would like to go. Since the launch of the Aviana yoga teacher training program there has been a lot of growth in the aerial yoga industry with a number of studios, park districts, retreat centers, gyms, health clubs, and therapy centers installing hammocks to be able to offer classes. If there isn’t one in your area, Aviana offers consulting to help support the launch of new spaces.
