Do you have to have taken an aerial yoga class prior to taking the teacher training?
Honestly, no. While it is recommended to do so in order to experience the awesomeness of aerial yoga, it is not required. The very founder of this program, Holly Johnson, had not ever taken a single aerial yoga class prior to jumping in with both feet to take her aerial yoga teacher training. She just knew that it would be amazing, fresh, exciting, and new so lunged at the opportunity to further develop her offerings as an instructor.
To decide if the style of Aviana Aerial Yoga is right for you, it is recommended that you check out our YouTube channel, visit a workshop, class, or contact us to chat about what you are looking to get out of a teacher training and if Aviana is the appropriate fit for you.
Do you have to be a yoga instructor to take the training?
It is a requirement that you have obtained a certification for at least a 200-hour yoga teacher-training program. This ensures that you have a solid understanding of effectively delivering a yoga practice and are committed to yoga instruction. However, there is the potential to waive this requirement on a limited basis depending upon your history and background. If you offer a background in teaching and have a personal practice with yoga you may be considered for the program.
Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss your personal circumstances and why becoming certified to teach aerial yoga is important to you.
How long does it take to complete the training?
The 25 hours of the teacher training will be completed in the studio hosting an Aviana Aerial Yoga Teacher Training. Trainings are conducted over the course of 3 or 4 days unless it is during a destination retreat, which may be 5 to 6 days.
The additional 25 hours, that allow this to be a 50 hour certification, are to be completed on your own (or of course with your new aerial friends from the training) and will involve 4 modules: practice teaching, an examination, demonstration of teaching skills, and short research paper. The deadline for the 4 modules is 5 months following the completion of the 25 contact hours.
It is suggested to not rush through your 25 non-contact hours, but to truly take your time in developing yourself as an Aviana Aerial Yoga Instructor with the tools and skills provided to you during the teacher training. Reach out to your fellow classmates and of course reach out to the instructor(s) of the training for support. Aviana Aerial Yoga wants to set you up for success in the aerial yoga industry in every possible way.
Extensions may be granted on an individual basis depending upon circumstances.

Where can I teach once I am certified?
While you are working on completing the 4 modules of the teacher training, it is suggested that you begin reaching out to potential spaces in order to explore offering your services as an aerial yoga instructor. Not all studios, gyms, fitness centers, and resorts will have the appropriate set up and capability to offer aerial yoga; however, they may be interested in exploring the addition of an aerial yoga program. Aviana offers consulting services and guidance to facilities interested in expanding their offerings to including aerial yoga, we are always an available resource. In addition, Aviana will assist you with contacts for studios that have expressed an interest in hiring an Aviana Certified Aerial Yoga Instructor. Not to mention, aerial yoga is the fastest growing new blossom in the yoga industry and studios are popping up everywhere wanting to offer this exciting new practice but do not have the right qualified person to teach. Be open to the possibilities and see what will come through for you.
What makes Aviana different from other trainings that are available?
Aviana stands out amongst other aerial yoga teacher trainings. This in depth, comprehensive program has traveled around the globe and is facilitated by a well-seasoned, passionate, and professional yoga instructor. Holly Johnson offers over 15 years of teaching experience with diversified teachings from all over the world. Her teaching tools are sure to set you up in a confident manner in order to feel good about stepping into your very first aerial yoga class to teach with poised precision, elegance, and grace.
Aviana fulfills the need for a program that readily infuses the heart and soul of yoga with the art of aerial elegance. The Aviana Aerial Yoga Teacher Training Program is designed to set you up for success in the development of your skills and ability to deliver a safe, effective, and connected aerial yoga experience. During this training you will not only learn over 60 asanas with the aerial yoga hammock, but you will also learn how to sequence a class flow, the basics of utilizing essential oils, appropriate ways to cue asanas and spotting techniques, anatomy awareness, and how to find your personal expression as an instructor for your students.
Do I need my own equipment to take the training?
It is not required that you have your own equipment to take the training, hammocks will be provided for the 25 contact hours of teacher training; however, there are an additional 20 hours of practice teaching time that will need to be completed following the 25 contact hours. For this you will need to have access to at lease 1-2 aerial yoga hammocks.
The hosting studio may have availability for you to perform your practice teaching hours at their location (and may even be looking to hire you as an instructor); otherwise, there is the option to purchase equipment during the training and have the hammock(s) to hang at a location of your choosing (home, studio space, tree, garage). During the teacher training, other opportunities may be discussed but will vary from location to location. You will have 4 months to complete your practice teaching hours.
